Over thirty cannabis farms will receive free exhibit space and assistance at Emerald Cup Harvest Ball with special placement and promotion as party of the ‘Craft Cannabis Marketplace’ at the Hall of Flowers at event
(Santa Rosa, California) The Emerald Cup is pleased to announce the first roster of exhibitors selected for its Emerald Cup Small Farms Initiative. Participants will receive pro-bono presence at the Craft Cannabis Marketplace at The Emerald Cup Harvest Ball 2021 in Santa Rosa, Calif., on December 11 and 12, 2021. Each of the selected participants has been invited to offer up to three product SKUs for sale to attendees with premium placement on the market floor, a reduced concession arrangement, and heightened promotion to drive attendees to seek and support these small farms during the event and beyond.
“These small farmers form the true roots of our industry, so it means so much to me and all of us at the Emerald Cup to be able to help them succeed as our industry moves forward into a new age of cannabis production, sales, and consumption,” says Emerald Cup founder and CEO Tim Blake. “I only wish we could help more. Each of the farms — all from historic cannabis-producing regions and the Emerald Triangle area of Northern California — was chosen by lottery after being carefully vetted by our committee in terms of size and need, as well as for ethical and sustainable farming practices.”

Envisioned by Emerald Cup founder Tim Blake, the Small Farms Council includes Michael Katz of the Mendocino Cannabis Alliance, Genine Coleman of Origins Council, Chris Anderson of Redwood Roots Distribution, Nicholas Smilgys of Mendocino Cannabis Distribution, and Traci Pellar of the Mendocino Producers Guild. The council worked with the Emerald Cup to evaluate license distribution among Northern California’s heritage cannabis-producing counties with active ordinances, allocating a proportional number of participants to each county. Qualified farmers were expected to hold a current and valid cannabis cultivation license for the state of California, have a maximum farm size of 10,000 square feet, practice sustainable farming and/or participate in third-party certification programs such as OCal, Sun + Earth Certification, Clean Green Certification, Regennabis, Envirocann, etc.
“These smaller farms have been struggling for years due to complicated regulations, onerous taxes, limited access to retail, and a volatile market,” says Council chair Michael Katz. “We are thrilled at the range of participants in this program and the opportunity to support farms already in the licensed consumer marketplace, as well as those just engaging for the first time. The Council members are grateful to be part of this process helping small farmers share their love and respect for the cannabis plant with attendees to The Emerald Cup.”
